Support Don't Lose Hope
Help the underserved and marginalized populations be healthier in healthier communities
Today’s society is faced with major preventable health threats including lifestyle diseases (heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes type 2, stroke, obesity and overweight); infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS-STDS; skyrocketing mental and psychological problems (stress, violence, crimes); an alarming decline in family, moral, and spiritual values. Leaning on its innovative approach to health - “Total Health”, DLH is taking groundbreaking strides to ensure safe, long and healthy lives for countless people, in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) in South Texas.
RGV is made up of four Counties: Starr County, Hidalgo County, Willacy County, and Cameron County. As of January 1, 2010, the Texas State Data Center estimated the population of the RGV at 1,167,121. According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010, 88.1% of Cameron County, 90.6% of Hidalgo County, 95.7% of Starr County, and 87.2% of Willacy County are Hispanic.
