DLH is a nonprofit organization; a public benefit corporation which is determined exempt from federal income tax under the section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code by the U.S. Department of the Treasure and Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and from Texas franchise or income tax under the Texas Revenue and Taxation with the File Number: 801364122 in the Office of the Secretary of the State of Texas.Mission Statement
The specific purpose of DLH is to increase quality and years of healthy life for underserved and marginalized populace in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) in South Texas; and to actively participate in the elimination of health disparities at grassroots level by educating and guiding people to make informed health decisions on the improvement of their individual’s overall health status.To accomplish this mission, DLH uses its unique innovative approach to best public health intervention program - Total Health which addresses the whole person; all aspects of human life, physically, mentally, morally, socially, and spiritually.
Suffice it to say, DLH is a comprehensive community health promotion public engagement initiative with a broad-based public health intervention program which encompasses basic health education; disease awareness and prevention; lifestyle and behavioral change; wellness; nutritional and dietary orientation; healthy cooking classes and healthy food demonstration; basic mental health education; substance abuse prevention; reduction of domestic violence and crimes in the community; family, group and individual counseling; child and youth mentoring; family values and empowerment; character building; moral values and integrity.Vision
